Built in 1825 by John Carr Dodge, the farmhouse remained with their family until 1969. It has been the home of families of farmers and fishermen who have made their living on Block Island. The one and one-half story, raised Cape has a five-room floor plan around a center stairway, and is a classic Block Island designed farmhouse.
Bill Penn, the present owner and proprietor of Maple Leaf Cottage, bought the farmhouse in 1977 and has spent the intervening years
restoring and renovating the building and grounds to what you see today. Some liberties have been taken in the restoration by incorporating modern amenities but the basic structure remains as it was built in 1825.
